Mixed berry crisp is a delicious and nutritious dessert that not only provides a delightful taste experience but also offers essential antioxidants and vitamins beneficial for overall health.

Ingredients

Filling

  • 5 cups frozen berries

  • 2 tsp lemon juice

  • ⅓ cup packed light or dark brown sugar

  • ⅓ cup pure maple syrup

  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract

  • 1 ½ tbsp cornstarch

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp ground allspice

  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg

Topping

  • ⅓ cup packed light or dark brown sugar

  • 1 cup old-fashioned whole rolled oats

  • ½ cup flour or your choice of gluten-free option

  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon

  • ⅛ tsp salt

  • ⅛ cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 2 tbsp sliced or slivered almonds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Grease a 9-inch pie dish. Set aside.

  2. Combine frozen berries and cornstarch first to coat, then add other filling ingredients. Use a bowl or the baking dish itself to save on using multiple dishes

  3. In a separate bowl whisk the brown sugar, oats, and flour together. Break up any large clumps of brown sugar. Whisk in the cinnamon and salt. Once combined, stir in the melted butter.

  4. Sprinkle topping over the berries and finish with a few slivered or sliced almonds (optional).

  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the filling starts to bubble and the topping is golden brown. If it looks like the topping is browning too quickly, cover the top loosely with aluminum foil about halfway through baking time. Allow to cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.

  6. Serve with yogurt as desired.
