Tips and Strategies for Finding a Living Kidney Donor

This 3-part series is geared towards people at any stage in their journey to finding a living kidney donor, including family and/or friends who are interested in learning how they can help.

Whether you are just starting out or have already started your search for a living kidney donor, these sessions will provide you with some basics, fresh ideas and a chance to speak with people who have lived experience with this emotional journey. We invite you to participate in all three sessions to gain knowledge, lend an ear, and actively participate in the discussion.

Session 1 - April 16 | Sharing my story with my friends, family and community

Not sure how to begin looking for a donor? Feeling uncomfortable telling people about your need for a kidney? Do you need some fresh ideas? No matter if you are new to this journey or have been in it for a while. In this session, we will present various approaches for you to communicate your search for a living kidney donor in a manner that works for your personal comfort and preferences. We’ll discuss how to talk about your need for a living kidney donor with others, and who you may want to approach. You’ll also have the opportunity to hear from others about their strategies and success in finding a live donor.

Session 2 - April 23 | Using social media to help with donor outreach

Thinking about using social media to try to find a live donor? Do you want ideas for what and how to post? In this session you will learn about the benefits and the risks of using social media to find a living kidney donor. You will also be given practical information and examples about how to develop your online platform.

Session 3 - April 30 | Managing obstacles and stress while looking for a live donor

Curious to know what challenges you may come across and how to face them? Wanting tools to help you cope with this journey? In this session, we will explore common obstacles that people experience when they are looking for a live kidney donor and potential ways to overcome them. You will also be given strategies for how to cope when common obstacles arise to help you move forward on what can be an emotional journey.
